About the campaign
For 80 years Sydney Dogs & Cats Home have been looking after abandoned, lost and neglected animals. During this time, they have grown to be Sydney's largest community pound serving some 10 councils and over 1.2 million Sydneysiders. Facing eviction from its longstanding site, Sydney Dogs & Cats Home sought to establish a new $21.6 million purpose-built community pound.
The results
The Make Home Happen Campaign launched with an initial $12 million goal which was achieved. However, escalating project costs forced Sydney Dogs & Cats Home to introduce a new stretch target for their campaign. A revised goal of $21.6 million was set! It has been a huge challenge to lift philanthropic and government support but it has also resulted in extraordinary giving, including the charity's largest ever gift, $1 million, from the Basil Sellers Foundation. The Make Home Happen campaign has now passed the initial target and raised over $15.5 million enabling Sydney Dogs & Cats Home to start construction of its new facility in Kurnell.
